Halloween: Part 2 - In Defense of Halloween

In Defense of Halloween

I don't get people who are offended by Halloween. I understand if you don't like to dress up, or go to parties, or just aren't into the whole thing, but offended by it? Aren't there enough real problems in the world to be offended over?

Halloween isn't about worshiping the devil anymore than Christmas is about worshiping Santa Claus. Sure, it has its roots in paganism, but so does Easter. When people dress up as zombies and ghosts, they aren't doing it to pay homage to the underworld, or to trick evil spirits into thinking the Wal-Mart skeleton is a real member of the walking dead. People dress up because playing dress up is fun.

We did it as kids, but we usually can't get away with it as adults. Too much adult stuff gets in the way. But on Halloween, just for the night, we can be kids again. We can thumb our noses at mortality and laugh in the face of death. Because every other day we're too busy licking our wounds to do so.
